Breede River Weekend Rafting.
Only 1.5 hours from Cape Town.
Hex River Mountains. close to the farming communities of Worcester and Ceres..
The Breede River originates in the Great Hex River Mountains in Ceres and meanders through farm and wine lands and eventually takes a turn past Bonnievale and Swellendam before it joins the Indian Ocean at Witsand. It hosts a wide variety of bird life such as Fish Eagles, Black Eagles, Jackal Buzzards, Herons, Cormorants and King Fishers.
We offer 2 different areas on the Breede River and we chose the best option on the day of the tour. The water in the river fluctuates in winter and summer and therefore we shift venues, depending on the water level.
Equipment & Guides:
We make use of 2-man inflatable rafts (crocodiles) with cooler box, dry bags, personal floatation devices and paddles included. The inflatable rafts are easy to control, safe and loads of fun.
Two or three qualified river guides with the necessary experience and knowledge of the river and the environment will guide you through the Breede River Valley. No previous experience is needed and only a moderate fitness level is required.
Day 1- Friday
We meet at Kamâbati campsite, situated on the banks of the Breede River, 20 km before Swellendam from 18h00. Dinner will be served at 20h00. We meet our fellow paddlers and friendly guides and overnight in tents in the tranquil atmosphere of the Breede river valley.
Day 2- Saturday
After a healthy breakfast, we make our way up stream and launch at Drewâs bridge. This stretch has some fun rapids, beautiful scenery and abundant birdlife. Lunch will be served on the one of the many beautiful sandbanks of the river, and we should be back at camp at about 16h00, where we will relax and swim and savour a few sundowners before dinner is served.
Day 3: Sunday
After a hearty fry-up breakfast, we launch out rafts and paddle towards Swellendam. Again we encounter some fun rapids and winding gulleyâs where we will look for the beautiful malachite kingfishers abundant in this area.
We will be back at camp for our last lunch and sadly say goodbye, before we head back to our origin at +/- 14h00.
Price: R1450.00 per person inclusive of rafting, guides and equipment, camping, in trip transport, all meals.
